Sandy the Ghost!

Kolmanskop (Coleman's Hill) is located in Namibia, Africa,  near the town of Ludertiz.  Today, it's just a ghost town named after a transport driver name Johny Coleman.  He  abandoned his ox wagon on a small incline opposite this settlement due to a sand storm and the rest was history.   In the past,  Kolmanskop was a wealthy diamond mining village.  German miners initially founded the settlement.  The residents during the mining era built the village in German architecture style.  The town hosted a hospital, ballroom, power station, school, theater, sports hall, casino and ice factory. It also was home to the first x-ray station in the southern hemisphere.  There was a railway that linked it to the town of Ludertiz.  After WWI the town declined in population when the diamond fields slowly were exhausted.  It was completely abandoned in 1954.  As Kolmanskop is located in the heart of a Namib desert,  natural geological forces make for wonderful photo opportunities and unique tourism.
