City "IN" the Garden!

Gardens By the Bay (Chinese: 滨海湾花园; pinyin: bīnhǎi wān huāyuán)is a massive park in central Singapore consisting of three waterfront gardens including the South, Bay East and Bay Central Gardens.  It was created to support Singapore's governments plan to transform Singapore from a "Garden City" to a "City in a Garden".    The goal is to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery in the city.  The park has done very well and is extremely popular with event planners, so popular it eventually was forced to limit events to three per week.   It's original  $1.035 billion allocated budget was utilized and the annual operating cost is about $58 million dollars per year.  Admission is free with the exception of conservatories.  The conservatory complex is comprised of two cooled areas, the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest.  The Flower Dome is the world's largest glass dome without additional interior supports (such as columns).  It has various gardens, an olive grove and a bistro.   The Cloud Forest replicates conditions found in tropical mountain regions found in South American and South East Asia.  Vertical gardens, known as Supertrees, are dramatic structures housing exotic ferns, vines, orchids and more.  They are fitted with technology that mimics actual trees  by harnessing solar energy and collecting rainwater for irrigation.  A skywalk connects the Supertrees and at night, the 'trees' come alive with a light and music show!
