Happy City Slickers!

I think I love this spot.  In Istanbul, Turkey, it is believed that about 150,000 stray dogs roam the city streets.  As we all know, life on the streets is rarely easy :), but these lucky dogs now have their own version of a doggy soup kitchen.  A company called Pugedo Smart Recycling has created vending machines that dispense dog food in exchange for your used water bottle.  They have also placed a water bowl in which you can fill up for the dogs and an occasional cat. The Istanbul government attempted to clear the streets of stray dogs in 2012, but the citizens fought back to save man's best friend. Instead, the government is now rounding up the strays for spay and neuter and then released back to the streets (and hopefully Rabies shots).  The stray dogs and cats in Istanbul are just art of the landscape of the area.
The vending machines have become quite popular with children and adults and often a doggy line up can be seen for dinner.  Many of the dogs are almost local celebrities.  This site puts a smile on my face!
