I've been fanaticizing about traveling to Norway since childhood and yet this has yet to happen. The Lofoten archipelago (chain of islands) would definitely be on the top of my list. They are located in Nordland, Norway within the Arctic Circle. I'm certainly not the only one who loves this area of Norway as it's been inhabited for at least 11,000 years. The islands have been the center of cod fisheries for over 1000 years. It is also know for it's dramatic beauty, of course. Life is abundant within the sea surrounding the islands and is home to the largest deep water coral reefs. It has plenty of sea eagles, cormorant and millions of other sea birds to enjoy, including my personal favorite, the PUFFIN! Moose can even be found on the larger islands. Winters are surprisingly mild considering it's location in the Arctic Circle. Lofoten has the largest positive temperature anomaly in the world relative to latitude. This is a result of the Gulf Stream and it's extensions. The average temperatures is above freezing all year (impressive)! Temperatures have been recorded as high as 87 degrees.
