Need I say anything or will pictures suffice? This is Mono Lake, California USA. It is a large shallow lake formed about 760,000 years ago . The lake has a very high salinity having no outlet, although it does have a active ecosystem based on brine shrimp. It also provides a nesting habitat for migrating birds that feed on the shrimp. Mono Lake is currently and active volcanic area with the last eruption 350 years ago. The indigenous people of the area are called the Kutzadika'a, who are native Americans. It's just a lovely lake and a bit alien looking :).. I really didn't need to write anything, did I?
