Pet Rocks???

In the small Romanian Village of Costesti, you will find a little something different about their rocks :)...  they GROW!   These are trovants and are completely natural.  No, the stones are not alive, yet they do grow and apparently move about the area.   They are located at the Romanian Trovants Museum National Reserve.  Trovants can be found in various places in Romania, but the ones at this site are very unique and quite diverse. Trovants are a bizarre geological phenomenon, which consist of cemented sand (with a rock core) due powerful seismic activity that occurred six million years ago.  Earthquakes also contributed to the creation of the first trovants.  What makes these rocks so special is that they grow from about 1/4 of an inch to as large as 30 feet.  They grow after heavy rains.  Today, smaller trovants  are growing on top of larger trovants.  It is said that like the rocks of Death Valley,  they move about from place to place.  Scientists believe the stones grow due to a high content of various mineral salts which are under it's shell. I couldn't find exactly why they mysteriously move around the fields.  They shapes sure do allow for your imagination to run wild.
