Easter Island?... not exactly!

Okunoshima Island located in Takehara, Japan was once known for producing chemical weapons during WWII. Today, it's known as a haven for fluffy, furry, fuzzy friends. The island is also known as 'Usagi Jim' meaning 'Rabbit Island'.  The island is home to hundreds of wild rabbits that enjoy roaming around the island's forests and paths. They also love to chase tourists for a bit of food or just lounging in the park. It is said the rabbits presence provide a great counterbalance to the island's dark history. Japan is the birthplace of Kawaii (a cultural appreciation for all things cute :) ). Needless to say, the bunnies are loved. The bunnies actually have more daily tourists than the Poison Gas Museum.   No one knows the true origins of the rabbits on island, however the rabbits were brought to the island for "testing" purposes related to the chemical weapons :(. It's quite possible some of these animals survived and then did what they do best.
