Happy Camels

Guelta d'Archei is located in the country of Chad (Africa).  It is the most famous watering hole in all of the Sahara Desert. It's truly an oasis more than a guelta.  The hole is shared by many creatures including camels, fish and the Nile Crocodile. The area's sandstone cliffs are home to long standing cliff paintings from the Holocene era when the Sahara enjoyed swamps and rivers along the South Mediterranean shores.  The crocodiles are remnants of that period. This area is definitely off the beaten path :). You'll need to use a 4x4 (or camel I suppose) to visit.  It takes several hours to reach this site by vehicle,  but I might be were the visit.   Camels are herded by the hundreds to the waters daily.   The water is apparently black from camel dung over the centuries.  The crocodiles survive off of fish and the fish off of algae that thrive off the of the camel droppings :).. the circle of life.   It appears to be truly a beautiful sight to see :)...
