Surfing, skiing, boarding... whatever you want to call it, I call it FUN! Cerro Negro (meaning black hill) is an active volcano near the village of Malpaisillo, Nicaragua. It's the youngest volcano in Central America, having first appeared in April of 1850. Since then, it's erupted over 23 times with the last being in 1999. A unique feature of this volcano is that emits large amount of ash from the top of the cone, leaving black pebbles and fine gravel perfect for "sandboarding"! There is currently a tour company that drives you to the volcano, provides you with appropriate specialized boards, gear and instruction. Of course, you must hike to the top of the volcano and head on down yourself :). The experience is said to be "intense" and speeds are easily clocked at 40 plus miles per hour, with the record being 55 miles per hour. Accidents with serious injuries can offer and don't forget, it's an active volcano :).
