Water Devil in a Kettle

Minnesota's Devil's Kettle Falls has continued to puzzle both hikers and geologists for generations. The falls are located along Lake Superior north shore where the River Brule forks and splits due to a rock outcropping.  The one side of the river continues on as expected, however the other side vanishes in what appears as a black hole with no exit. It is believed to be have an exit somewhere, but where is the question.  Researchers have attempted dropping ping pong balls, dyes, logs and even cars into the kettle with no luck... nothing reappears.  With the massive amount of water that falls every minute of every day into the kettle, you would think that researchers would have determined it's path.  So who knows..  all I know is don't get too close!
