Ice Ice Baby!

Harbin International Ice Festival can be found in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province of China in the city of Harbin attracting thousands of locals and tourist per year. The festival has been running annually (in Jan) since 1963 (minus a few years for political reasons).  Harbin's average temperature in the summer is about 40 degrees and in the winter about -1 degree.  Siberian winds assure the ice just won't melt. Ice is taken from the frozen Songua River and large saws are used to carve the blocks of ice. Artists use a variety of chisels, picks and saws for form their sculptures.  Lights are used to create a color spectrum in the evening.
