The geyser is not entirely a natural phenomenon. It was created accidently by not capping a well correctly or leaving it fully unplugged. Either way, dissolved minerals started rising and accumulating. It eventually created a travertine mound where the geyser continues to flourish and grow. The geyser is currently on private property. Water is constantly released in a geyser like fashion discharging water in to 30 plus pools over an area of 74 acres. The geyser is made of up several different types of minerals, however the brilliant color is due to thermophillic algae.
