The Spotted Lake of Osoyoos, British Columbia Canada was originally known by the First Nations (indigenous tribe) as "Khiluk". It has been an ongoing sacred site for these people producing therapeutic waters. The lake is highly concentrated with a variety of minerals including magnesium sulfate, calcium, sodium sulphates, silver and titanium. During WWII, the minerals of the lake were used for ammunition. Eventually the First Nation Tribe purchased the land in 2001 for $740,000. The lake tends to evaporate during summer months, leaving access to the minerals and unusual hardened spots and natural walkways around these spots. The color of the spots vary depending on their mineral content. Today, the lake is fenced leaving limited access to tourists, however visibility of the lake is good. There is a small sign in the area telling visitors about the healing powers of the lakes.
